KOTA KINABALU: As more political parties voice their support for a unity government as proposed by the King, those from Sabah and Sarawak want to be included in it.Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) chairman Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said both GRS and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) agreed that there was an immediate need for a federal government to be formed.
“GRS is in line with GPS to agree to the decision and advice of the King to set up a unity government for the unity and stability of the country and the people,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Any unity government, he said, should be inclusive and incorporate the governments of Sabah and Sarawak with their own respective mandates to rule the state.
“For the country to progress, we have stable politics that will ensure the development of the economy,” said Hajiji, who is Chief Minister and Sabah chapter chairman of Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu).Meanwhile, Sabah STAR president Datuk Seri Dr Jeffrey Kitingan said it was also open to the formation of a unity government.
Kitingan, who is also Sabah Deputy Chief Minister, said: “The nation has to move forward.
To do so, we must have stability.”
