KUCHING: Parti Sarawak Bersatu’s (PSB) general election candidate Johnical Rayong is seeking to nullify the result in the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat after being defeated by only 100 votes.
Johnical, who is also Engkilili assemblyman, said he was not satisfied as his request for a recount was rejected by the returning officer when the result was announced on polling night last Saturday.
“The initial count showed that I was leading, but then it was announced that I had lost.
“I asked for a recount on the spot, but it was not allowed. No reason was given.
“So, I appeal to the Election Commission to reconsider and take action accordingly to determine the validity of the result,” he told a press conference at the Sarawak legislative assembly here yesterday.
In GE15 polling last Saturday, the Lubok Antu parliamentary seat was won by Gabungan Parti Sarawak newcomer Roy Angau Gingkoi, who polled 6,644 votes in a four-cornered fight.
Johnical garnered 6,544 votes while incumbent Jugah Muyang from Perikatan Nasional got 5,360 votes. Pakatan Harapan’s Langga Lias got only 746 votes and lost his deposit.
