TNB goes all out to face monsoon season risks

KUALA LUMPUR: Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) has made extensive preparations for the monsoon season, which includes improvements to critical infrastructure in flood-risk areas.

TNB chief distribution network officer Wan Nazmy Wan Mahmood said its hydroelectric dams were in good condition to continue functioning as flood mitigation measures, adding that water levels at the dams had been gradually lowered since July.

He said the company has also built retaining walls for the drainage system at the entrance of the main intake substations (PMU), and raised the equipment platforms.

Wan Nazmy said mobile and portable generators, as well as critical equipment such as boats, satellite phones and floodlights, have been placed at strategic locations.

“Other measures include changing the location and elevating transmission towers to ensure that there is no risk of towers falling,” he said in a statement yesterday.

TNB’s operation rooms in flood- affected states will be activated to monitor the situation and provide the latest information on the power supply situation, he added.

“If a substation is flooded, the operations have to be suspended.

“Reconnection will only be carried out by TNB after the situation is safe,” he added. — Bernama
