Pakatan teams up with Barisan to form Pahang govt

KUANTAN: Pahang Pakatan Harapan leaders are claiming that they can form the state government jointly with Barisan Nasional.

Pakatan’s Teruntum assemblyman Sim Chon Siang said the state Pakatan was still in discussions with Barisan.

However, it was “very possible” that Pahang Pakatan would join forces with Barisan in the new state government, he said.

Pahang PKR secretary Zuraidi Ismail also said that negotiations were still ongoing, but added that it would mean Pakatan having to “give way” or be flexible in the negotiations.

“We are waiting for the final outcome of Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s negotiations with Barisan Nasional.

“It’s a different stage now. We have to be flexible and look at what’s best for the country. We have to weigh the pros and cons.

“What is more detrimental is allowing a PAS-led coalition to govern the country,” he said when contacted yesterday.

A source from within Pakatan claimed that the Pahang mentri besar post would go to a Barisan assemblyman.

It was learnt that Pahang Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail was in Kuala Lumpur for a meeting with Barisan leaders.

The Pahang state assembly is hanging in the balance with none of the three coalitions – Barisan, Pakatan and Perikatan Nasional – having a simple majority to form the state government.

Perikatan has 17 state seats, one more than Barisan (16) and Pakatan (eight). The winner for the Tioman seat has not been decided as the election will only be held on Dec 7.

It was suspended following the death of Perikatan candidate Md Yunus Ramli on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Pahang DAP chairman Leong Ngah Ngah also said the state Pakatan had agreed to cooperate with Pahang Barisan to form the state government.

“Yes, Pahang PH has agreed to cooperate with Pahang BN but we are awaiting the official decision from the central leadership,” he said.
