KUALA LUMPUR: All parties should refrain from causing anything that could disrupt public order and safety now that the 15th General Election (GE15) has ended, says Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani.

The Inspector-General of Police said the voting process on polling day went on smoothly.

“All elements within the police force have been mobilised to ensure public order is preserved,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The IGP said stern action would be taken on anyone who threatens the nation’s safety.

Meanwhile, five men were detained for various offences on polling day, said Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali.

The Bukit Aman GE15 operations director said a man was detained for causing a ruckus at the SK Hulu Yam Lama voting centre.

“He knocked over one of the ballot boxes at 10.09am on Saturday.

“The police’s Cantas squad was deployed to the school and the suspect was apprehended,” he said.

Three other men were detained for playing with firecrackers in front of government buildings, he said.

“Two of the three men were detained near the Kelab Tuanku Mambau hall in Seremban at about 7.45pm.

“Another man was detained for setting off fireworks in front of the Port Dickson administrative building,” he added.

The last arrest was made on a man who prevented civil servants from performing their duties near the Seremban City Council Hall voting centre, Comm Hazani said.

On another matter, he said Bukit Aman received 3,355 police reports in connection with GE15 for the past two weeks.

He said the police reports were lodged nationwide, including 446 reports in Kedah, followed by Kelantan (424), Pahang (422), Selangor (419) and Perak (326).

“The reports were those lodged between the eve of nomination day (Nov 4) and polling day (Nov 19),” he said.

Based on the reports, 501 investigations papers (IPs) were opened, he said.

“A total of 137 IPs were referred to the deputy public prosecutor.

“Five suspects have been prosecuted while three others are serving their sentences.

“Seven cases have been classified as No Further Action (NFA) while the remaining cases are still being investigated,” Comm Hazani said.
