Dengkil folk have to vote elsewhere as floods hit

SHAH ALAM: A polling centre in Sepang had to be relocated for today’s voting process after it was hit by floods.

The centre at SJKT Dengkil has been moved to Sekolah Rendah Agama Dengkil, Bernama reported.

A letter from Sepang parliamentary returning officer Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain to the Selangor Election Office stated that the polling centre was inundated with water on Thursday.

The returning officer had applied for a change of the venue for the polling centre.

Selangor election director Shafie Taib then informed the Election Commission headquarters of the matter to enable the new location to be gazetted as a polling centre.

According to reports, more than 800 people were moved to eight flood evacuation centres on Thursday night when water levels rose.

The victims were from Kampung Ampar Tenang, Kampung Sri Tanjung, Kampung Semarang, Kampung Sungai Buah and Kampung Cemperai.
