One dead, pillion rider hurt after bike crashes into stalled vehicle on NSE emergency lane

KULAI: A 20-year-old man was killed and his pillion rider injured after their motorcycle crashed into a vehicle at KM20.7 of the North-South Expressway near here.

Kulai OCPD Supt Tok Beng Yeow said that the incident occurred at 8.30pm on Thursday (Nov 17), when the duo was heading in the Johor Baru direction.

“The incident started when a 32-year-old man parked his car in the emergency lane after his engine broke down.

“The duo, who were riding a motorcycle from the same direction, did not manage to evade the vehicle and crashed into the back of the car.

“The impact caused the rider to be thrown into the passenger seat of the car while the pillion rider, aged 22, was flung to the front of the car,” he said in a statement here on Friday (Nov 18).

Supt Tok added that the rider had suffered a serious injury to his head and was pronounced dead at the location, while the pillion rider had suffered an injury to his body and had been brought to the Sultanah Aminah Hospital (HSA).

The vehicle's driver was unharmed.

The case is being investigated under Section 41 of the Road and Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, Bandar Baru Kulai Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Abd Malik Abd Rahman said a total of nine members were deployed to the scene to help with the rescue operation.

“The rider of the motorcycle was stuck in the passenger seat and had to be removed using special equipment.

“The body was then handed over to the police while the injured victim was sent to the hospital,” he said, adding that one fire truck was deployed to the location.
