Viral video on thousands of travellers entering CIQ Complex is fake, say police

JOHOR BARU: A viral video showing thousands of travellers entering the country through the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar (BSI) Customs, Immigration, and Quarantine Complex (CIQ) here is fake, says Johor police.

Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said that the 17-second video that has made its rounds on social media was not taken on Thursday (Nov 17) as claimed.

"There is no sudden or unusual increase in the number of travellers at the CIQ on Thursday.

"The video was believed to be an old recording that is being played again," he said in a statement here on Thursday (Nov 17).

He added that the number of people entering the country was no more than 2,000 on Thursday.

"We urge the public to stop spreading the video, which may cause anxiety to others," he said.

Earlier, a video of a huge crowd entering the CIQ went viral on social media, suggesting that there is a large number of Malaysians coming back from Singapore to vote for the 15th General Election (GE15).
