PUTRAJAYA: Even a seasoned politician such as Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor has fallen victim to fake news.
The Putrajaya incumbent MP has denied claims that RM300 will be given to outstation voters to come back and vote at the federal administrative capital, where he is a candidate.
The Barisan Nasional candidate said a message has been circulating since Sunday (Nov 13), alleging that he will provide “petrol money” to encourage voters registered in Putrajaya, but are either working or residing elsewhere, to return and cast their ballot on Nov 19.
“This is a baseless allegation and whoever is doing this (sending out the messages), please stop. We should not resort to throwing allegations against one another. This is not right.
“For those who have received the message, please ignore. I am not offering to pay for you to return to Putrajaya to vote.
“That is your right which you should exercise voluntarily,” he said when met at the Putrajaya police district station to monitor the early voting process on Tuesday (Nov 15).
Tengku Adnan said being a seasoned election candidate, who had contested for the Putrajaya seat since the 2004 polls, he knows the dos and don'ts, adding that offering money to fish for votes is certainly a don’t under the Election Offences Act.
He said the Barisan machinery here had lodged a police report on the matter.
A message has been circulating via the WhatsApp application, asking outstation Putrajaya voters to fill in a travel allowance claim form to facilitate their return to vote.
IN GE15, Tengku Adnan is in a six-cornered fight against Datuk Dr Radzi Jidin (Perikatan Nasional), Datuk Mohd Rosli Ramli (Pejuang), Dr Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz (Pakatan Harapan) and two Independent candidates Lim Fice Bee and Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.
