KOTA KINABALU: The viability of a Bum-Bum Island-Semporna ferry service will be seriously considered, says Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor.
The Sabah Chief Minister said this would be a short-term consideration while waiting for the proposed Pulau Bum-Bum bridge to materialise.
"I will talk to the Public Works Department and Economic Planning Unit to see if we can start a ferry service," he said during a meet-the-people session in Semporna Tuesday (Nov 15).
Hajiji was in Semporna to campaign for the Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) candidate for the constituency, Nixon Abdul Habi.
He said the bridge was a long-standing proposal but he would take up the matter to the Federal Government if GRS-Barisan Nasional wins the elections here.
With him were Nixon and Barisan candidate for the Bugaya state seat, Abdul Aziz Ibnu.
Hajiji, who is GRS chairman, said Warisan president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal had been talking about "resetting" Sabah, however, he said Semporna needed to be "reset" first.
"We must not be satisfied with the old but look forward to a brighter future. We must make Semporna perfect," he said.
He said the GRS-Barisan state government will look to resolve infrastructure issues at Kampung Simunul and Kampung Bangau-Bangau, among others, since Shafie could not.
This, Hajiji said, involved the people's well-being, which is among the main pillars of the GRS-Barisan state government's Sabah Maju Jaya initiative.
He said GRS-Barisan has big plans for Semporna and Sabah with emphasis on economic recovery.
