GE15: Permits required before going on walkabouts, cops remind politicians

KUALA LUMPUR: Permits will be required if any candidate wants to go on a walkabout, say police.

Bukit Aman GE15 operations director Comm Datuk Seri Hazani Ghazali said all GE15 candidates only needed to make an application once to do walkabouts in the parliamentary or a state constituencies they were contesting in.

He also said if the constituency spanned across two or more police districts, applicants only needed a single application at any of the district police headquarters.

"Applying for a permit is needed to enable the police can take necessary action to ensure the candidates are able to conduct their activities smoothly.

"Candidates must refrain from having clashes as well as verbal or physical provocation during the walkabout," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 11).

Under Section 24B(3) of the Election Offences Act 1954, Comm Hazani said candidates must submit an application for a permit for every open public gathering, open public performance, open public entertainment or a public speech or talk during a general election.
