LABIS: PKR’s claim that it can win a certain number of seats in GE15 is an old tactic that is being regurgitated, says Barisan Nasional’s candidate for Labis Datuk Chua Tee Yong.
“This has always been its strategy to try and convince fence-sitters,” he said.
For instance, he said that PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had previously claimed he had a “strong, formidable and convincing majority” to form a government.
“This time, the party is just using a different spokesman in the form of its deputy (Rafizi Ramli) who is going around telling people it can win a certain number of seats,” said the former deputy finance minister when met on the campaign trail in Bekok here yesterday.
At a ceramah in Taman Yayasan, Segamat the night before, Rafizi had taken note of the good turnout and said it was an indication of Pakatan Harapan’s chances in GE15.
“We are only in the third day of campaigning and the turnout is already this good. If this continues in the coming days, I feel that we can win more than 100 seats,” he said on stage.
Chua, in reference to this, said: “If such political talks are an indicator of who will win or lose, then we do not need to vote any more – we can just hold ceramah.
“This strategy also shows that it has run out of tactics to attack Barisan. The same goes for its perception play of claiming that voting for Barisan is equivalent to voting for coalition chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to become prime minister, when the facts show that Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob is the candidate of choice for the position,” he added.
Chua is challenging incumbent MP Pang Hok Liong from DAP for the Labis parliamentary seat.
Another contender for the seat is Perikatan Nasional’s Alvin Chang, making it a three-cornered fight to win the hearts of the 49,802 voters in the constituency.
