ALOR SETAR: The poster and flag wars in Kedah have started in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Giant billboards and party flags can be seen along roads in the city centre and rural areas in Kedah.
Checks by The Star found that flags of contesting parties have been erected in many strategic spots.
In hot seats like Pokok Sena, two giant billboards of Pakatan Harapan incumbent MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar were erected side by side with Barisan Nasional candidate Noran Zamini Jamaluddin at the junction of Jalan Langgar.
About 8km towards Alor Setar, a giant billboard of Perikatan Nasional featuring Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, PAS president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, Perikatan chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and its candidate for Pokok Sena Senator Datuk Ahmad Yahya can be seen erected near padi fields along Jalan Langgar.
Barisan, Pakatan, Perikatan and Parti Warisan flags have also sprung up along roadsides, especially around settlements and junctions.
The poster and flag wars have started picking up pace in Jerlun, Kuala Kedah, Alor Setar and Pendang.
A total of 71 candidates including four independents are vying for the 15 parliamentary seats in GE15.
Nominations for GE15 were held on Nov 5 with early voting set for Nov 15 and polling on Nov 19.
