SIBU: Sarawakians want the state to use its bargaining power as it is expected to be the kingmaker post GE15, says Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate for Sibu seat Clarence Ting (pic).
"From the feedback that I got, the people want GPS leaders to make appropriate demands," said Ting, who is also Sibu Municipal Council chairman.
He said this after launching the presentation of certificate of appreciation to volunteers helping at the Covid-19 vaccination centre here.
Ting, who is contesting in the election for the first time, said GPS should demand for the deputy prime minister post or at least a second finance minister position.
"Right now, it is very important for us to get as many seats as possible. So that whoever comes out on top...we can discuss. What do we talk about? Number one - on MA63 (Malaysia Agreement 1963) - to get back our health and education autonomy so that we are in charge of our own destiny," he said.
Ting said this is the best chance for the state to exercise its bargaining power as GPS is not aligned to any coalition.
On DAP candidates here who continue to propagate that GPS will be supporting Umno to form the government, he said it was their tactic to paint a bad picture of GPS.
Ting is facing a three-cornered fight with incumbent Oscar Ling (Pakatan Harapan) and Datuk Seri Wong Soon Koh (Parti Sarawak Bersatu).
