GE15: Don't damage, destroy posters of rivals, say Johor cops

JOHOR BARU: Supporters of candidates and political parties should not tear down or burn posters of any rival, says Johor police spokesman Supt Ibrahim Mat Som.

“They should also not put up flags or banners which can cover up road signs,” he added.

Supt Ibrahim then added that the Johor police have opened up two investigation papers into the setting-off of fire crackers and also the removal of posters since Nomination Day on Saturday.

The two incidents occurred on Monday (Nov 7) and are believed to have occurred in Buluh Kasap in Segamat and Plentong in Johor Baru.

On the incidents, Supt Ibrahim said that the police are carrying out investigations under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957 and Section 427 of the Penal Code.

Meanwhile, Barisan Nasional’s Kulai parliamentary candidate Chua Jian Boon described the action to remove or tear down his party materials and banners as unfair.

“Such actions should stop, we should not resort to such tactics,” he said, hoping that the police would carry out investigations and nab those responsible.

He said that he had received reports of such mischief in Senai Utara, adding that he has also directed his volunteers to lodge a report.
