Balik kampung and vote, parents tell children

IPOH: Mothers, and fathers, know best. Parents with children working out-of-state are asking them to make their vote count on Nov 19.

“I told them to come back the day before, maybe in the evening, after work,” said retiree Helen Gabriel.

Her children are based in Kuala Lumpur.

A tour guide, who only wanted to be known as Subramaniam, said his three children are based in Saudi Arabia and Singapore.

“I am not worried at all about possible floods or Covid-19. I have to vote. I have also told my children that they need to come back and vote. The ones in Singapore will be voting in Johor while the one in Saudi will be back here to vote,” he said.

Artist Shahrun Nahar Seliman has four children and two of them are eligible to vote.

“I’ve encouraged them to make the time to vote. One is in Kulim, Kedah, and the other is in Shah Alam. They will be voting in Gopeng,” he said.

As for entrepreneur Ravi Perumal, 60, he is seeking more information before voting and hopes his children will do the same.

“I have three children and they know it’s important to vote,” he said.
