Heart-breaking loss for single mum

THE little boy who drowned at Pantai Puteri in Ayer Keroh, Melaka, had been keeping in touch with his mother over the phone frequently because he was missing her, Kosmo! reported.

According to his mother, Noor Faezah Zulkifli, 29, six-year-old Amirul Asyraff Fakhrul and his 10-year-old brother were being cared for by their grandmother in Tanjung Kling, while she lived with a relative at Kampung Gelam.

She said Amirul Asyraff would call her before going to sleep and would sometimes ring her up in the wee hours of the night, to tell her that he misses her and ask her when she would come to pick him up.

“The last time I met Asyraff was last Wednesday and I felt uneasy and strange when he didn’t call yesterday,” she said when met at Pantai Puteri.

The single mother said she was shocked to learn that her son had drowned as he rarely goes to the beach to play.

“He would usually play with his cousins at the area around his grandmother’s house. I am puzzled why he had gone to the beach to play,” she said while holding back tears.

Amirul Asyraff was said to have drowned at around 3.50pm after he fell into the water after jumping from a wall, according to his cousin.

The boy’s body was retrieved about 30m from the beach at 6.22pm after search and rescue operations were conducted by lifeguards and the Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue Department.

> Actress Intan Najuwa said her family provided a strong support system and they have always reminded her not to stress over controversies she was linked to.

“I have never felt that these controversies would bring me down. I am learning to increase the quality of my life,” the 27-year-old told BH Ahad.

Intan, who is studying law, has dealt with her fair share of controversies which include a broken engagement and being called as a witness by the police over a case stemming from a misunderstanding.

She said she respects the stand of her co-star Yusuf Bahrin, the husband of Zizi Kirana, who did not want any touching in a drama series they acted in together.

“I respect the right of all actors. I am also well aware of staying within my limits as an actor.

“I have no problem holding or touching. Plus, the Jesnita series does not have any romantic sequences and it is more of a family story.

“I am not new to the industry and a lot of the men I have acted with are married – plus, I know the wives of most of my co-stars. It is unlikely I would do something that would spark a controversy,” she added.

Intan said she is serious when it comes to work, but she also likes mingling with other actors once work is completed.
