PETALING JAYA: After being urged by PKR's P. Prabakaran to withdraw from contesting the Batu parliamentary seat, Tian Chua has told the incumbent Batu MP to focus on his plans to resolve issues faced by locals instead.
"Let's debate about problems in Batu and your plans to resolve these issues if you are elected.
"There's no point dragging in history and party regulations - that is not the concern of the rakyat," said Chua when contacted on Nov 6.
The former PKR vice-president, whose real name is Chua Tian Chang, also said if Prabakaran's track record in Batu is good, he would receive the mandate again from the people.
"This is an election, not a competition between me and him. Let the best person win," said Chua.
On PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s statement that he would be sacked from the party for contesting as an independent, Chua said: "I expect to face the consequences."
"My relationship with Anwar goes back a long way.
"We can remain friends regardless of what happens because our friendship is based on our common vision of the struggle," added Chua.
Earlier on Sunday (Nov 6), Prabakaran urged Chua to withdraw from contesting the Batu parliamentary seat as the seat could fall out of Pakatan Harapan's grip.
Prabakaran said he was disappointed in Chua's decision to stand as an independent as it could split votes further in the constituency, which will see a 10-corner fight.
In GE14, Tian Chua, who was disqualified from standing, had endorsed and supported Prabakaran who stood as an independent and eventually won.
Batu will have 10 candidates vying for the seat, the most in the country.
