SIBU: Gabungan Parti Sarawak's (GPS) new face for the Lanang parliamentary seat Wong Ching Yong (pic) will source for RM1bil in development funds if elected.
"Give me five years and I will fight for RM1bil in development funds," said Wong at a press conference on Sunday (Nov 6).
The Dudong SUPP chief said he would disclose what projects he would implement with the money over the next few days.
He took a swipe at his rival for the seat, DAP's Alice Lau for bringing in only RM2mil to the constituency when she was the MP.
"The two-term ex-Lanang MP told the public that she fought for over RM2mil for Lanang. This is too little. It means you only had RM200,000 each year," he said.
Wong - who is an accountant - said should he become the MP, Lanang would see a big change once the RM1bil is secured.
Bukit Assek assemblyman Joseph Chieng then chipped in by saying that the electorate should vote Lau out.
Wong also said Lau had failed to follow-up on the proposed SMK Dudong and SK Dudong projects after she was elected in the 2013 General Election.
The projects, he said, were approved for implementation under the 10th Malaysia Plan but failed to take off.
The new Lanang MP, he stressed, needs to ensure that the schools will be built next year as they had been approved under Budget 2023.
The Lanang seat will see a four-cornered fight. The other two candidates in the fray are Priscilla Lau on a Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) ticket and Independent candidate Datuk Wong Tiing Kiong.
