IPOH: The police will give extra attention to the Larut, Bagan Datuk and Tambun parliamentary seats that are considered general election hotspots, says state police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri.
“These locations are named as hotspots based on the individuals and the parties that are going to contest there.
“A total of 3,494 police officers and personnel will be stationed at nomination centres across the state on nomination day (tomorrow),” he told reporters at Ipoh Contingent Headquarters here yesterday.
Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi will defend the Bagan Datuk parliamentary seat against PKR’s Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Aki and an independent candidate and former Sungai Benut MP Tawfik Ismail.
In Larut, incumbent MP Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin of Bersatu will be contesting against Barisan’s Mohd Shafiq Fhadly Mahmud and Amanah’s Zolkarnain Abidin.
In Tambun, PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is set to contest against incumbent MP and Bersatu deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu and Barisan’s Datuk Aminuddin Md Hanafiah.
Comm Mohd Yusri said more than 7,000 police officers and personnel will working from nomination day until the polling on Nov 19.
“On nomination day, only the candidate, proposer and a supporter are allowed to enter the nomination centre,” he said.
Any type of music instruments or devices, including vehicles used for political purposes are banned, he said, adding that several roads will be closed on the day.
