Obey the law, Penang top cop reminds parties

GEORGE TOWN: Supporters have been warned against playing loud music, gathering in huge numbers and any form of provocation during nomination day tomorrow.

Penang police chief Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said although it was the common practice for large numbers of supporters to escort candidates, public safety will be given top priority.

“I call on representatives of parties and candidates as well as their supporters to obey the law and to not make provocations.

“All parties need to know that the entire election process has been planned with much emphasis on transparency,” he said after inspecting nomination centres at the various districts.

Meanwhile, it is “all systems go” at Dewan Sri Pinang, which will be the nomination centre for the Tanjong parliamentary seat.

Centre manager Rozita Hamid said a total of 1,060 personnel will be on duty.

“Supporters are not allowed into the building except for the candidates and their nominees,” she said.

There are 13 nomination centres in each of the 13 parliamentary constituencies.

For the northeast district, there are four nomination centres, which are the Compassionate Community Complex (Bukit Bendera), Dewan Sri Pinang (Tanjong), SMK Penang Free High School (Jelutong) and SMK Chung Hwa Confucian (Bukit Gelugor).

The two nomination centres at the southwest district are SMK Sungai Ara (Bayan Baru) and Balik Pulau Polytechnic (Balik Pulau).

For north Seberang Prai district, the nomination centres are Dewan Datuk Haji Ahmad Badawi (Bagan), Kepala Batas Industrial Training Institute (Kepala Batas ) and Mara Skills Institute (Tasek Gelugor).

For central Seberang Prai, the nomination centres are the Seberang Prai Tengah Land and District Office hall (Bukit Mertajam), National Youth Higher Skills Institute (Permatang Pauh) and the Seberang Prai Vocational College (Batu Kawan).

For south Seberang Prai district, it would be at the Jawi multi-purpose hall for the Nibong Tebal parliamentary seat.
