Non-stop rain causes flash flood in Yan

ALOR SETAR: Continuous rain for more than two hours has caused a flash flood in Yan, Kedah on Friday (Nov 4) evening.

District Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Lt (PA) Muhammad Zul Izzi Zulkifly said among the affected areas were Kampung Titi Teras, Kampung Teroi Bukit and Kampung Sungai Malai.

"The flooding happened after heavy rain for more than two hours which has caused the river to overflow," he said in a statement on Friday (Nov 4).

He said the situation was still being monitored and was at the "cautious level" as of 4.30pm on Friday.

He however said no temporary relief centres had been open so far.

He said APM was monitoring the situation and was always standing by should anything happen in the area.

He said as of now the water level at the river had increased by about 0.3m to 0.5m.

Meanwhile, at Kampung Iboi ,the centre of a devastating flood disaster in July, was hit by yet another flood on Friday (Nov 4) evening.

Villager Hasmah Ahmad, 57, said her house was inundated with flood water after heavy rain kept pouring since 1pm on Friday.

"The water level started to rise at about 6pm, and has reached knee-deep," she said.

It is learnt that some villagers were trapped in their houses after flood water gushed into their houses.
