IPOH: There is no issue involving the Bagan Serai parliamentary seat, says Perikatan Nasional.
Its Perak secretary Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharudin said members were united in facing the general election.
Adding that things were “under control”, he said there was no plan for Bersatu’s Datuk Dr Noor Azmi Ghazali to defend his seat there as an Independent.
On Nov 1, Perikatan announced that PAS vice-president Datuk Idris Ahmad will contest the Bagan Serai parliamentary seat.
In GE14, Noor Azmi contested as a Barisan Nasional candidate and won with a 172-vote majority. He joined Bersatu in November 2018.
“In fact, Noor Azmi’s brother, Noor Azman Ghazali, will be contesting the Alor Pongsu state seat.
“Although it was previously announced that Bagan Serai Bersatu chief Ismail Ali will contest Alor Pongsu, we have decided to let Noor Azman contest there,” Zainol told reporters at the Perak Perikatan headquarters here yesterday.
Zainol, who is the only Perak Perikatan candidate contesting both parliamentary (Teluk Intan) and state (Sungai Manik) seats, said Perikatan’s candidate for Perak mentri besar had yet to be decided.
“Maybe after nomination day (tomorrow). As for our GE15 candidates, they come from various ages and backgrounds.
“The youngest is 25-year-old Syed Lukman Hakim Syed Mohd Zin who will contest the Chenderoh state seat,” he said.
