JOHOR BARU: MCA will be contesting all of its traditional Johor seats and fielding two new candidates, says party president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (pic).
"We have eight parliamentary seats in this election, which is similar to 2018. In the last election, we only won one parliamentary seat, which is my own Ayer Hitam constituency," said Dr Wee, who is defending his Ayer Hitam seat.
"This time, we have to improve and we will be working very hard to achieve this," he added.
He said this to reporters when met after an event to present the watikah to Barisan Nasional candidates here on Thursday (Nov 3).
The eight seats MCA is vying for in Johor are Iskandar Puteri, Kulai, Tebrau, Ayer Hitam, Labis, Kluang, Tanjung Piai and Bakri.
The two new faces MCA is fielding are its youth chief Datuk Nicole Wong Siaw Ting, who will be contesting the Tebrau seat and the party's Public Services and Complaints Bureau deputy chief Chuan Jian Boon for Kulai.
Wong is expected to be in a four-cornered fight against incumbent Tebrau MP Steven Choong Shiau Yoon from Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM), PKR's Jimmy Puah Wee Tse and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu)'s Mohamad Isa Mohamad Basir.
Meanwhile, 29-year-old Chua, who is the party's youngest candidate, will be up against incumbent Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching from DAP and Gerakan's candidate Datuk Tan Chin Hock.
