THIRTY people were injured when a cooking gas cylinder exploded during a family function in India, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The incident happened in the country’s north-eastern state of Bihar when the family gathered to prepare for the Chhath Pooja, a Sun God festival.

The cylinder explosion sparked a large fire, causing injuries and burns to over 30 people including several policemen who rushed to help the victims.

Several of the victims were reportedly in critical condition.

The incident comes hot on the heels of a gas cylinder explosion in Tamil Nadu state, which the authorities are investigating as a possible terrorist incident which killed a 25-year-old man last week.

No such links have been made in the Bihar explosion.
