SIBU: Component parties of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) cannot afford to work in silos any more if they want to win in Opposition strongholds, says Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) women's wing chief Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah.
PBB Women chief, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah said GPS component parties would be working together to win seats like Sibu and Lanang in the 15th General Election.
"We will be working as a team. It is no more PBB, PRS (Parti Rakyat Sarawak), SUPP (Sarawak United People's Party) or PDP (Progressive Democratic Party). We are not working in silos. When the election comes, we will be working as one GPS," she said at a press conference after a PBB Women's wing election machinery meeting.
PBB vice president Dr Annuar Rapaee said in the previous state election, they had won seats within the two parliamentary constituencies.
"We won the Bukit Assek and Dudong state seats which form the Lanang seat. We also won the Pelawan and Nangka seats which mathematically means we also won the Sibu seat," said Dr Annuar.
The Nangka assemblyman also said GE15 was the best chance for GPS to "end of the era" of the Opposition.
"The spirit of the party is very high now. Of course we want to end the Opposition's era in Sibu. This is the best chance," he said.
DAP MPs Oscar Ling and Alice Lau have held the Sibu and Lang constituencies respectively for two terms.
In the 2018 parliamentary polls, Ling successfully retained the Sibu parliamentary seat with a majority of 11,422 votes over his closest rival, BN-SUPP's the late Datuk Andrew Wong Kee Yew in a four-cornered fight.
Lau retained the Lanang seat with a majority of 14,546 votes in a three-cornered fight. He garnered 29,905 votes to SUPP's Kelvin Kong 15,539 votes.
