Charred remains of man found in burnt car


Tragic end: The body of a 63-year-old man was found inside the burnt vehicle.

KOTA KINABALU: The charred remains of a man were found inside a burnt car close to a playground near a residential area here.

The remains of the 63-year-old victim were discovered in the car at Taman Iramanis at around 9.20am yesterday.

Kota Kinabalu OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaidi Abdullah said police received a call about a burning vehicle.

“A team was sent to investigate. Firemen had already put out the fire when police officers arrived. They found the deceased at the driver’s seat,” he said in a statement.

ACP Zaidi said the cause of the incident is being investigated, while the remains of the victim were taken to the hospital for a post-mortem.

State Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations Misran Bisara said in a statement that firemen managed to bring the fire under control at around 9.27am.

No one else was injured in this incident.
