Azmin calls Amirudin a ‘sacrificial lamb’

PKR candidate Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari (Gombak).

PETALING JAYA: Incumbent Gombak MP Datuk Seri Azmin Ali says PKR has made Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari a “sacrificial lamb”.

Amirudin has been picked to contest in Gombak in the 15th General Election (GE15).

Azmin said although he had challenged PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to stand in Gombak, Amirudin was chosen instead.

“My honest take is that Amirudin is PKR’s sacrificial lamb. He is a reluctant fighter and is being dragged into the ring. So this is a proxy war.

“Having said that, I welcome any challenge. My focus has always been to work hard for the prosperity of all Malaysians and the rakyat of Gombak,” said Azmin.

Amirudin was once a close ally of Azmin.

Azmin has held the Gombak parliamentary seat for the past three terms under the PKR ticket and continued to do so after joining Bersatu in 2020.

Amirudin is currently the state assemblyman of Sungai Tua, a state seat under the Gombak parliamentary constituency.

However, Amirudin said the fight between him and Azmin was not personal.

“The ‘Battle of Gombak’ is not about certain individuals. It is about Malaysia’s past versus Malaysia’s future.

“Gombak voters want a representative to serve with fresh ideas, moral values, integrity and dignity,” he said.

Amirudin said he would use his track record as Selangor’s head of state to do the talking to reel the people’s support.

“I will let the work of my team and I do the talking. Voters in Gombak have seen our track record with the state government, which put the people’s interest as a number one priority, not a personal one,” he said.

He said he and his team were ready to take on Azmin.
