M'sian Family driving licence programme aimed at helping B40 group, says Dr Wee

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Family Licence Assistance (BLKM) initiative was introduced to help the B40 group get B2-class driving licences, said Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

Dr Wee said since he became the Transport Minister, he had been thinking of a plan to help the B40 group obtain the licence easier to ensure that people are protected.

"There will be many who ask why the initiative was implemented," said Dr Wee in a Facebook post after the BLKM closing ceremony in Johor on Saturday (Oct 29).

He added that 107 individuals had received their licences through the programme.

"Imagine if an accident occurs and the victim does not have a licence. Wouldn't it create an issue where the victim will not be able to claim insurance?" he asked.

He said that was why the BLKM initiative was launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob on March 13.

Dr Wee added that the BLKM also benefitted the Orang Asli community who faced various issues attending classes at driving institutes to obtain the B2 licences.

Also present at the ceremony were Johor exco member and Yong Peng assemblyman Ling Tian Soon, Road Transport Department (JPJ) director-general Datuk Zailani Hashim, Johor JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan, Batu Pahat council president Ezahar Abu Sarin and Yong Peng council president Nur Faiz Jamil.
