IPOH: Perak Parti Amanah Negara will continue to defend the Behrang state seat with its new and youngest candidate for the 15th General Election (GE15), says Datuk Asmuni Awi.

The Perak Amanah chairman said the constituency would be defended by a 30-year-old entrepreneur, Khairol Najib Hashim.

“For GE15, we will contest 20 state seats and six parliamentary seats. We have 15 fresh faces, including nine who are aged below 40.

“All our candidates come from various backgrounds and education levels. We picked young candidates because we believe in their potential,” he told reporters at the Wisma Amanah Perak here yesterday.

In the 14th General Election (GE14), Aminuddin Zulkipli, who was also the former state deputy speaker during the Perak Pakatan Harapan administration, won Behrang with a majority of 409 votes.

“Only our party council can explain why Aminuddin was dropped,” said Asmuni without elaborating further.

Asmuni said the names were nominated based on the previous elections and the party’s formula.

“Our formula is to contest the PAS traditional seats and we believe we can win them,” he said.

During GE14, Amanah contested four parliamentary and 12 state seats in Perak. The party won two parliamentary seats – Parit Buntar and Lumut; and six state seats – Titi Serong, Kamunting, Manjoi, Sungai Rapat, Pasir Panjang, and Behrang.

Incumbent Parit Buntar MP and Amanah vice-president, Datuk Dr Mujahid Yusof Rawa, and incumbent Lumut MP, Datuk Mohd Hatta Md Ramli, will defend their seats.

Other parliamentary seats contested by Amanah include Larut (Zolkarnain Abidin), Bukit Gantang (Fakhruldin Mohd Hashim), Kuala Kangsar (Ahmad Termizi Ramli), and Parit (Nurthaqaffah Nordin).

Amanah incumbents who will defend their state seats include Perak Amanah deputy chairman Datuk Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin at Sungai Rapat, Yahaya Mat Nor at Pasir Panjang, Muhd Fadhil Nuruddin at Kamunting, and Asmuni Awi at Manjoi.

Other state seats that will be contested by Amanah are Rungkup (Ahmad Munzirie Ahmad Kabir), Changkat Jong (Muhaimin Sulam), Pengkalan Hulu (Mohd Saad Ismail), Kota Tampan (Mohd Sabri Abdul Manaf), Selama (Razali Ismail), Kubu Gajah (Mohd Nazri Din), Titi Serong (Muhammad Nakhaie Wahab), Gunung Semanggol (Sheikh Khuzaifah Sheikh Abu Bakar), Selinsing (Ahmad Saqif Ansarallah Ahmad Jihbaz Mokhlis), and Changkat Jering (Megat Sharifuddin Ibrahim), Lubok Merbau (Perak Amanah Deputy women chief Zaiton Latiff), Manong (Mohd Jamsari Mahmood), Belanja (Mohd Ikmal Mohd Iskandar), Ayer Kuning (Moud Nazri Hashim), and Kampung Gajah (Mohd Syamsul Alauddin).
