I never called Anwar a Freemason, says Hadi

PETALING JAYA: Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang has denied claims that he called PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim a Freemason.

In a statement on Facebook on Wednesday (Oct 26), the PAS president said Anwar had made the allegation in a speech that was recorded on video.

"With this, PAS is compelled to deny his claims. For the record, I have never said such a thing about Anwar.

"With the 15th General Election (GE15) imminent, PAS rejects the culture of political slander, empty promises and false accusations," he wrote.

"The Arabic proverb holds true here – 'He beat me, but he cried. He oppressed me, but he complained'," he added.

The Freemasons are said to be an organisation with origins to stonemason guilds from the end of the 13th century, which regulated the qualifications of stonemasons and their interaction with authorities and clients.

Freemasonry's inner workings are closed to non-members of the fraternity, leading to numerous conspiracy theories being formed around it.
