PETALING JAYA: Workers who are out-of-town registered voters should be given incentives to head home to vote on polling day, says the Small and Medium Enterprises Association (Samenta).
Employers should encourage or even give incentives such as additional leave days to employees to do their part in choosing their government, said Samenta south chairman Dr Louis Ooi.
“This could encourage employees to go back to their respective polling stations,” he said.
Polling for the 15th General Election (GE15) has been set for Nov 19, with early voting on Nov 15.
Nomination day will be on Nov 5.
Malaysian Association of Hotels (MAH) national vice-president Datuk Khoo Boo Lim said that those travelling to their hometowns should start booking their accommodation early.
“Now that the dates have been announced, those who will be voting in other states should start booking their accommodation,” he said.
In the last general election, he said that many voters had returned to their home states to vote.
“Some stayed in hotels for days as they had arrived early so that they would have time to meet up with family or friends before the general election.
“This time, it may be the same as polling days falls on a weekend,” he added.
“They should start making plans,” said Khoo, whose brother Boo Teik, who is in Singapore, will return home to vote.
