Bring it on, Peja tells Anwar

IPOH: Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu will be staying put in Tambun to take on Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for the parliamentary seat in GE15.

The incumbent Tambun MP and former Perak mentri besar who is also Bersatu deputy president, said he is not at all bothered that the PKR president is going there.

“I am not going anywhere and will be staying put in Tambun,” the minister said yesterday.

Ahmad Faizal, also known as Peja, said he would be focusing on the services that the people require and not on Anwar.

“He is just a human, just another politician, but he thinks he is the greatest politician ever born.

“If Anwar thinks he is so capable, he should be contesting in Australia, Britain or elsewhere.

“My people and I have been doing all the groundwork concerning my constituents, and that is my focus,” he said.

A Bersatu source said it would not be smooth sailing for Anwar.

“Peja is close to his constituents and has been providing excellent service to them.

“His services to the people are tip-top, so Anwar should not have the notion that everything is so simple and that he can win easily,” the source said.

On Thursday, the Opposition leader confirmed at the Pakatan Harapan convention here that he would be contesting in Tambun.

On Sept 28, Anwar said he had to pick areas held by “traitors” as a message that treachery in politics is unacceptable.

Ahmad Faizal was among those who contributed to the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government in Perak in 2020 by switching to Perikatan Nasional shortly after the Sheraton Move in February that year.
