KOTA KINABALU: Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) youth members want Barisan Nasional to stand solo in the 15th General Election (GE15).
Its youth exco chief Edwin Laimin said 99% of division leaders and grassroot supporters agreed to the proposal, adding many of them viewed the cooperation between Barisan and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) as a form of betrayal. PBRS is part of Barisan.
“We fully support the suggestion by party president (Tan Sri Joseph Kurup) for Barisan to go into GE15 on its own,” he said.
Laimin said if Barisan continued to work with GRS, it would make it difficult for Barisan and PBRS to get more seats to contest in GE15.
“This is due to the seat sharing formula, which also means that PBRS will not get as many seats. For now, PBRS has only one parliamentary seat (Pensiangan),” he said, adding that the coalition would only benefit Perikatan Nasional and not Barisan.
Recently, Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said GRS’ victory could be translated as a win for Bersatu because the coalition is part of Perikatan.
