GE15: Negri Speaker expected to contest Jelebu parliamentary seat under Pakatan

SEREMBAN: Negri Sembilan assembly Speaker Datuk Zulkefly Omar will likely contest the Jelebu parliamentary seat under the Pakatan Harapan ticket in the general election.

State Parti Amanah Negara chief MK Ibrahim Abd Rahman said the party's Permatang Pasir assemblyman Muhammad Faiz Fadzil has also been nominated for the Tampin parliamentary seat.

Permatang Pasir is a state seat in Penang.

Muhammad Faiz is the son of Fadzil Noor, the former PAS president.

"These are the names that have been proposed by the state Amanah.

"The final decision will be made by the party leadership," he said.

MK Ibrahim said state Amanah women's wing (Awan) chief Norwani Amat has also been slated to stand in Jempol.

Norwani, who is also state Awan chief, becomes the first woman to contest a parliamentary seat in the state under the Pakatan banner.

Jelebu, Jempol and Tampin had always been Barisan Nasional strongholds.

However, in the last general election, Amanah's Datuk Dr Hasan Bahrom created a major upset when he managed to unseat Barisan's Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor in Tampin.

There are eight parliamentary constituencies in Negri Sembilan.
