SEREMBAN: A former government department director has been fined RM5,000 in default four months’ jail by the Sessions Court here for submitting a false claim.
Haslin Abdul Razak, 47, former Negri Sembilan and Melaka Orang Asli Development Department director, had pleaded guilty to the offence before judge Rushan Lutfi Mohamed.
The former owner of Salju Asli Enterprise, Mohd Irwan Redzuan Abdullah, 45, who was jointly charged with Haslin, was fined RM8,000 in default five months’ jail for the same offence.
The duo was jointly charged with submitting a false claim for food and drinks totalling RM13,200 for an event held at the Bukit Payung Orang Asli Village in Alor Gajah in Melaka, although such an event was never held.
They allegedly committed the offence on Dec 6, 2016 at the Orang Asli Development Department at Wisma Persekutuan here.
They were charged under Section 471 of the Penal Code, punishable under Section 465 of the same legislation. Offenders can be jailed up to two years or fined, or both upon conviction.
The court also ordered that the RM13,200, which was with the Orang Asli Department Sport and Welfare Club, be seized and handed over to the government.
