GE15: MIC's Vigneswaran hopes to contest in Sungai Siput

KUALA LUMPUR: MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran is eyeing the Sungai Siput parliamentary seat for the 15th General Election (GE15).

“I hope I’ll be contesting in Sungai Siput,” he told reporters on the sidelines of the MIC AGM here on Monday (Oct 10).

“That’s what I am thinking of. I cannot go to a new place. There’s not enough time,” he added.

He said it is possible that MIC might be contesting in more than nine parliamentary seats.

As for candidates, he said coordinators have already been appointed at certain areas two or three years ago and they have already started their groundwork.

However, Vigneswaran said there could be some changes, adding that the list of candidates will be announced in due course.

“To a large extent people who are holding positions will be given a (seat),” he said when asked on whether party top guns will be contesting.

MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said it is likely that he will defend his seat, which is Tapah.

“It depends; if the president says I have to contest in Tapah, I’ll contest. So far, I don’t see otherwise,” the Human Resources Minister told reporters here on Monday.

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced that Parliament had been dissolved, paving the way for GE15.
