MOTHERS in B40 households have been forced to work, do household chores, and care for their children with little to no downtime in order to meet the rising cost of living, Kosmo! reported.
They either labour for a wage or open small businesses to help their husbands cover household expenses.
A 28-year-old nasi lemak vendor, who only wanted to be identified as Marlia, said she is doing this to help her husband pay off money he borrowed from a loan shark in 2020.
“I don’t blame my husband for taking out a loan to cover our five months’ unpaid rent after he was laid off because if he hadn’t done so, we would have been homeless,” said the mother of two.
Marlia said her husband also works as a truck driver.
Another B40 wife, Nur Shazila Mokhtar, 30, who works as a finance clerk, said that she has to wake up as early as 5am every day to prepare her children for school and husband for work before leaving for the day.
Able to rest at midnight after returning from work and completing the household chores, she said, “My husband works as a security guard, but his salary of RM2,300 is not enough to support our family with five children, especially with the rising prices of goods and house rent,” Shazila added.
> Two actresses continue to remain silent over allegations that the Datuk titles of their spouses were fake, reported Harian Metro.
On Sept 30, a Facebook user named Aliff Ahmad sparked an uproar online when he alleged that Eina Azman and Fouziah Gous’ husbands had false Datuk titles to their names.
Harian Metro said the actresses did not respond to its numerous phone calls and text messages for a comment on the issue.
The actresses have also refrained from discussing the allegation on their social media accounts.
