Senior citizen dies after falling into drain in Sabah

KOTA KINABALU: A senior citizen died after falling into a drain at the Donggongon township in Penampang district on Tuesday (Oct 4) morning.

Penampang OCPD Deputy Supt Mohd Haris Ibrahim said the victim, a 66-year-old local man, was found unconscious inside a drain at around 7am.

He said passers-by who saw the unconscious man had informed the police about it.

“We believe he had fallen into the drain and hit his head,” he said in a statement.

DSP Haris said there were injuries to the back of the victim’s head when found.

He said medical officials had pronounced the victim dead at the scene.

“There is no foul play in this incident. The victim’s body has been sent to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital for post-mortem,” he said.

DSP Haris said the case is classified as sudden death.

He also urged the public to refrain from sharing photos of the incident out of respect for the bereaved family.
