Babysitter detained for child neglect in Ampang

KUALA LUMPUR: A babysitter has been arrested for alleged child neglect after an infant under her care suffered multiple bites from another child.

Ampang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohamad Farouk Eshak said the incident occurred on Sept 30.

"The complainant, a bank officer, 32, claimed she dropped her eight-month-old daughter at the babysitter’s house at Taman Putra in Ampang here and when she picked her up at around 5.40pm, she noticed her baby had bite marks to her face and injuries to her ears.

"The baby was taken to the Ampang Hospital for a medical check," he said in a statement on Monday (Oct 3).

He said police conducted investigations and arrested the 43-year-old babysitter at around 11.45pm on Oct 1.

"Our checks revealed the woman was taking care of six children aged from three months to two years old.

"She also had two children of her own aged 8 and 16 years old," he said.

He said investigations revealed the suspect had left the children on that day and went out of the house for about two hours when the girl was bitten by another child.

"The suspect has been remanded for four days to assist with investigations.

"We have opened investigations under Section 31(1) of the Child Act for neglect of a child and causing injury," he said.
