Beauty sector closer to being regulated

PUTRAJAYA: The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry is studying the recommendation on the need to regulate beauty treatment service centres in the country, says its minister Datuk Seri Alexander Nanta Linggi.

He noted that his ministry always conducts engagement sessions with industry players and the Health Ministry to find the best method to regulate the beauty industry, whose market value is expected to exceed US$999mil (RM4.63bil) by 2026.

His ministry also examined various aspects of the industry including consumer demand, value chain, use of technology in trending beauty treatments and consumer safety.

“It is the ministry’s plan to regulate the beauty sector in Malaysia to ensure the industry runs in an orderly and systematic manner for the sake of consumer safety,” he said in a statement yesterday, according to Bernama.
