Perak Bersatu gets new associate wing info chief

IPOH: Buntong assemblyman A. Sivasubramaniam has been appointed Perak Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (Bersatu) associate wing information chief.

The three-term assemblyman had rejoined the party just a few months ago.

“I rejoined Bersatu to oust Barisan Nasional,” he told reporters after receiving his appointment letter from Bersatu associate wing chief Dr Chong Fat Full yesterday.

This is the fourth time since 2020 that he has switched parties.

Sivasubramaniam, who was with DAP for about two decades, quit the party following the collapse of the Pakatan Harapan state government in March 2020.

He spent three months as a Perikatan-friendly independent before joining Gerakan in June 2020. But in March the following year, he joined Bersatu.

In January this year, Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) president Larry Sng announced Sivasubramaniam’s membership in the party and that he was appointed PBM senior vice-president II.

Sivasubramaniam said yesterday that his grassroots supporters had been vocal, advising him to “pull back (from joining PBM)”.

“They felt that I should not wear the Barisan symbol in case Parti Bangsa Malaysia was accepted by Barisan as a component party.

“Having listened to them, I felt a change was necessary,” he said.

Sivasubramaniam said he would leave it to the party to decide where he should contest in the upcoming general election.

“Of course I would like to retain my seat in Buntong. I have been serving the people there but I will leave it to the party to decide.”

Separately, Dr Chong said he was optimistic about the wing’s chances in the general election.

“We have appointed professionals and experienced politicians like Sivasubramaniam to be part of our team.

“We haven’t decided where we plan to contest but we are looking at some hot seats like the Ipoh Barat or Kampar parliamentary seats,” he said.
