KJ: Health, Defence ministries briefed to help with floods

KUALA LUMPUR: While others are talking about the elections, we are getting ready for the floods, said Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin.

The Health Minister said that he and Defence Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein were focused on ensuring that both of their ministries would be well prepared to assist the National Security Council (NSC) should floods occur.

“We have been briefed on the preparation levels by the Health and Defence ministries to help the National Security Council in the event of year-end floods.

“It is quite clear that other people are talking about elections, but Mindef and KKM are getting ready to face the floods to ensure the safety of the people,” Khairy said at a press conference yesterday.

He added a joint work visit to the Hospital Angkatan Tentera Tuanku Mizan was conducted following orders by the Prime Minister to all relevant ministries to prepare for the floods.

Meanwhile, Hishammuddin said preparation work for the floods by both ministries must continue.

“Like what YB Khairy said, people are only thinking about when the elections are and whether we should hold one during a flood.

“What is important is that all parties work together with us. If you can’t reach me, contact KJ (Khairy) or my secretary general, and other available lines,” Hishammuddin said.

During yesterday’s press conference, Khairy revealed that a new framework of partnership between the two ministries is being worked on.

Khairy noted that the partnership between both ministries during the height of the pandemic was much appreciated and seen as effective. The proposed new framework would improve their partnership, including the possibility of more shared human resources and assets.

“After this, seeing that the partnership was very effective, a new framework would be constructed between the two ministries,” he said.
