Addict high on drugs slashes two cops

SHAH ALAM: Two policemen suffered slash wounds while trying to apprehend an armed drug addict.

“Police received a call about a man who had gone amok in a Nissan Navara, ramming into his brother’s car in Kampung Sungai Kandis, Section 36 here,” said Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim.

“The 47-year-old man also allegedly threw a flower pot at his brother before chasing him with a machete,” he said in a statement yesterday.

At around 3.45pm on Monday, he said, Insp Mohd Zulhusni Hasani, L/Kpl Mohd Ridzuwan Marsudi, and five other police personnel went to the house where the man had locked himself in.

A police team managed to gain entry into the house and the suspect started swinging the machete towards Mohd Ridzuwan when he fired a shot in self-defence, he said.

“The suspect continued to charge at him and slashed his left wrist,” he said, adding Mohd Zulhusni also suffered a slash wound to his right wrist.

He said Mohd Ridzuwan was sent to the Shah Alam Hospital before he was transferred to the Selayang Hospital for emergency surgery. He is in stable condition.

Mohd Zulhusni received five stitches and has been discharged.

ACP Mohd Iqbal said police managed to arrest the man, who tested positive for methamphetamine, amphetamine and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
