Man cheated of handphone by 'buyer' using fake cash

KAJANG: A man was scammed after counterfeit money was used to pay for a handphone he was selling.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zaid Hassan said that the victim lodged a report on Sept 20 after he was "paid" for a handphone he had sold online.

"The victim met the suspect - a local woman - at the Billion shopping centre in Bandar Teknologi Kajang. The suspect paid RM1,950 in 17 RM100 notes and five RM50 notes.,” he said in a statement on Tuesday (Sept 27).

"When the transaction was completed the victim went to a cash deposit machine to bank the cash monies into this account but all of the RM100 notes were found to be fake when they were rejected by the machine,” he added.

ACP Mohd Zaid added that the suspect was seen going around in a brown Kia Cerato at the time of the alleged crime.

"The public are advised to be aware of such cheating. Be careful and do not rush into sales that involve payments in cash or Cash On Delivery (COD). Also identify the individuals involved in the sales to avoid being victims of cheating," he said.
