Housewife stressed over breadwinner hubby’s ill health

A HOUSEWIFE from Senawang, Seremban, worries that her breadwinner husband’s deteriorating health may make it more difficult to care for her twin sons with cerebral palsy, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Salina Abu Bakar, 41, said her 13-year-old sons, Muhammad Saifullah Samsul and Muhammad Saifuddin, were diagnosed with cerebral palsy when they were one year old.

“The twins require extensive care due to their condition and vulnerability to sudden seizures,” she said.

Salina said she is under pressure again as her husband Samsul Kamarudin, 44, has severe health problems such as chronic asthma, high blood pressure and diabetes.

“My husband has struggled with asthma for almost 20 years, but he only started using a breathing aid this year because his condition has become chronic, and he is constantly going in and out of hospitals for treatment.

She said her husband works as a security guard and earns RM1,300 a month.

Salina is concerned that his health may worsen in the future, which could be detrimental given that he is the family’s breadwinner.

> A vendor in Melaka sells nasi lemak for only RM1 per packet despite the surge in the prices of essential goods, reported Utusan Malaysia.

Norati Yunus, 42, who’s stall is located at the side of Jalan Klebang, said she has no problem selling nasi lemak with anchovy sambal, an egg and a piece of cucumber for a low price because she enjoys seeing so many eager customers.

“If you really want to calculate the profit of my business, it is not that much compared to the cost of the ingredients, particularly with the recent hikes in the prices of eggs, chilli and rice.

“However, I am still grateful, as it is enough to assist my husband,” added Norati.

Norati also said she only opens her stall three days a week, from Friday to Sunday, as she has to take care of her three school-going children on weekdays.
