Four made homeless as fire destroys house, three cars and scooter in Melaka

ALOR GAJAH: A mother and her three children (all girls) lost all their belongings when their house in Taman Angkasa Nuri, Durian Tunggal was razed by a fire early Tuesday (Sept 27) morning.

Liliwati Kaharudin, 50, said during the 1.40am incident, apart from her house, the fire also destroyed three cars and a scooter that belonged to the family.

She added that her 20-year-old daughter, who was doing some work, smelt smoke and went to check what was the cause and was shocked to find the ground floor on fire, believed to have been caused by the air conditioning.

"I was awaken by her shouts and my eldest daughter, 23, who was awake at the moment, quickly woke up my 15-year-old third daughter who was asleep. We rushed out and I tried to safe one of the cars but when I approached the car, the windscreen suddenly exploded and I abandoned my plan,” Liliwati told reporters here today.

Liliwati added that though neighbours had rushed to help, the raging flames forced them back and almost 80% of the house was destroyed.

She added that two cars and a scooter were totally burnt, while another car had burns and a neighbour’s car was also damaged.

Meanwhile, Ayer Keroh Fire and Rescue station’s Operations Commander Senior Assistant Supt Zahrul Azha Mokthar said the station received an emergency call at 1.45am and 10 firefighters were dispatched to the location.

"Upon arrival, we found a double strorey house measuring 22x70 up in flames. We managed to douse the fire by 2.58am,” he said, adding that investigations were being carried out to determine the cause of the fire and estimated losses. - Bernama
