KUALA LUMPUR: The organisers of the proposed Parti Ikatan Demokratik (Muda) protest planned for this Saturday (Sept 24) have yet to give notice to police.
Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Noor Dellhan Yahaya advised them to not hold the assembly.
"We have yet to receive any notice from them.
"If the demonstration goes on, police will take stern action in accordance with the law," he said in a statement on Thursday (Sept 22).
He urged the public to refrain from joining the rally.
In a press conference on Wednesday (Sept 21), Muda announced that it planned to hold a protest on Saturday to oppose holding the general election during the year-end monsoon season.
Muda central executive committee member Nurainie Haziqah Shafii was quoted saying that the demonstration - Nyawa Dulu Baru Pilihan Raya - was planned to be held in front of Sogo Shopping Mall.
"The demonstration is a response to Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's statement that Barisan Nasional was ready to brave the floods to campaign if the elections are held this year," she said, adding that the statement made by him was irresponsible.
She also said that the Prime Minister must announce a national flood mitigation plan on the placement of assets and government manpower.
