Gang leader held after crime spree, skipping parole

BESUT: The Alif Buntal gang leader who skipped parole last month is believed to have committed 13 crimes, including stealing six motorcycles, before he was rearrested in Kampung Lampu, Kuala Besut, on Sunday.

The 22-year-old man from Kuala Besut, who was on parole in Damansara, Kuala Lumpur, was reported to have escaped on Aug 10.

He has a criminal record for 11 previous offences.

“The suspect was believed to be involved in six motorcycle thefts, six burglary cases with losses amounting to RM59,000, and one criminal assault in less than two months after he escaped parole.

“Investigations found he had committed the crimes in Besut and Setiu with two others still at large, known as Mat Chah and Mat Daha,” Kuala Besut OCPD Supt Abdul Rozak Muhammad said here yesterday.

He said the rearrest of the suspect resulted in police conducting a series of raids on locations where six stolen motorcycles were found, including one reported stolen from a teacher’s house in Taman Alor Lintang on Sept 14.

“Police also seized three laptop computers and two mobile phones believed stolen from their victims,” he said, adding that police would apply for an extension of the remand against the suspect to facilitate further investigation into all the cases. — Bernama
