JOHOR BARU: Malaysian United Democratic Alliance’s (Muda) application to join Pakatan Harapan would not affect ongoing seat negotiations among existing coalition party members, says Rafizi Ramli.
The PKR deputy president said that seat negotiations among Pakatan would be finalised by Sept 30 while the process for Muda to join the coalition would continue.
"By Sept 30, we will have a full list of seats to contest among PKR, DAP, Parti Amanah Negara and Upko," said Rafizi.
On Muda's application to join Pakatan, Rafizi said that it will need to go through the process and whatever the decision made by the Pakatan presidential council will not disturb the ongoing seat discussion.
"Questions on how Muda would work with Pakatan, that would be a matter to be discussed at the next stage. As such, I don't see there will be any clashes of seat," he said in a press conference after giving a speech at the Ayuh Malaysia programme here on Saturday (Sept 17) night.
He said this when asked if there would be any seat clashes with Muda as seen during the Johor state election.
Asked when the discussion on Muda's application would be finalised, Rafizi said that has yet to be decided.
"I can't say as it has not even been brought to the presidential council. It has not been discussed at all. Let the process go on first. It is too premature to say anything when discussion has not even started," he said
During the Johor state election, Muda contested in the Larkin seat, which was also contested by PKR.
The Larkin seat saw a six-cornered fight that was won by Barisan Nasional’s Hairi Md Shah
On Sept 9, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman told The Star that the party had submitted a letter to join Pakatan.
He had said the letter was submitted to the Pakatan presidential council and the party presidents of PKR, DAP, Amanah and Upko.
The Muar MP had previously said the fledgling party was ready to cooperate with Pakatan in GE15 and they are eyeing no more than 15 seats to contest in.
